Sharp.
Not sloppy.
CaliFCKD is a consumer newsroom for California’s public numbers. The promise is in the tagline: California, show your work.
The stance is independent and sharp. It is not a forecast of collapse, and it is not a defense of every official claim. A series can improve and still sit worse than 2017–19. Los Angeles County is a place of its own.
The founder has lived in California their whole life and wants residents to see the votes, the money, and the measured results — in one place, with the receipts attached.
We don’t take money that could change a chart. There is no checkout, no donor wall, and no tax-deductible claim. If a contribution path is added later, it will come with its own decision about the recipient and tax status, published here.
Improving can still be bad.
A reading can be moving the right way and still sit worse than 2017–19. We show level and direction side by side so one never hides the other.
No grade. On purpose.
We don't average housing, jobs and pensions into a letter. An average lets a good number cancel a bad one. You get the readings, not a verdict.
Unknown is not neutral.
When a file is stale or missing it is labeled unknown, with the reason. It is never quietly counted as fine.
LA County stands alone.
Los Angeles County is charted on its own and never added into the statewide picture.
